Humble beginnings

Kia started out in South Korea in 1944 under the name “Kyungsung Precision Industry.” During the late 40s and 50s, Kyungsung produced mainly steel tubing and bicycles. After changing the name of the company in 1952, Kia began producing motorcycles, trucks, and cars, which gradually gained popularity throughout South Korea and the rest of Asia.
Expansion to North America
By the early 1990s, Kia had become an immensely popular automotive company that was bursting at the seams. That’s when it decided to break into the North American market by opening a number of corporate offices throughout Canada and the U.S. Today, Kia has its Canadian headquarters in Mississauga, Ontario, as well as regional offices in Halifax, Vancouver, and Montreal. Over the past 20 years, Kia has sold millions of quality vehicles throughout Canada and the U.S., including many models with the distinctive new “tiger nose” corporate grille.
Continued excellence
Today, Kia operates in 155 countries, and boasts annual sales in excess of 1.4 million vehicles a year.
